Pathtracing with Brigade Update: As good as it got in 2014.

Another year, another step closer to real-time ray tracing. This is as good as it gets in 2014. A little noisy but I'd say give it a few more years, a few more teraflops of GPU power and we will be seeing games, phones, tablets, you name it, rendering reality. Reality like what you see out your bedroom window, in real time.

Then what will happen to the world? What happens to film making when you don't need to walk out the door to film something? What happens when you can really start to think about building The Matrix?

Facebook + Second Life + GPU + Brigade 3.0 = The Matrix?

Only time will tell. Perhaps the next World of Warcraft will be more immersive than we dare imagine.

Wow. Rokinon! Cine lenses that work on the Canon AND GH4?! Wow...

Focal Reducer Speed Booster sold by Roxsen with Panasonic GH4 and Tokina 11-16 Test/Comparison

Hey all. For those of you who are waiting for the Metabones Speedbooster EF->M43 mount, remembering that the price tag hovers around the $600 mark - you may be pleased to know that you can grab a Roxsen "Focal Reducer" speedbooster which does the same thing for only around $140.
Yep! You can now use Canon EF Glass on a GH4 using a $140 adapter and you get Super 35mm focal length equivalents (so APS-C Hollywood style 35mm framing) and 1 extra stop of light... for the low low price of $140.
Seriously good news! Check out eBay for some great stuff. I just typed in "speedbooster focal reducer ef m43" and I got a few options.

You would not believe what Bentley used to shoot their 2014 commercial with. Seriously.

This is the 2014 Bentley commercial "Intelligent Details" which showcases the new 2014 model automobiles in lavish sophisticated splendour.

Cut to 3:15 to see which camera filmed this commercial. Once you pick your jaw up off the floor, really ask yourself: Can you do something like this? After all, you probably own the camera! It's no longer a valid excuse to say that you don't have the money to go out and shoot film. It's the film crew behind the camera that makes the film. It always has been and, wait for it:

IT ALWAYS WILL.

If you don't know what you're doing. If you don't understand composition, framing, perspective, motion dynamics, camera movement... then it doesn't matter if we hand you a 90k ARRI Alexa with all the bells and whistles.

THE CAMERA DOES NOT MAKE THE FILM. PEOPLE MAKE THE FILM.

Get out there and BE CREATIVE people. No excuses!
